MINDFUL LEARNING IN THE DIGITAL AGE

An ancient practice rooted in Asia’s wisdom cultures, “mindfulness (sati)” has found new application as a secular form of learning – “mindful learning” — which seems particularly suited to the dynamics of the digital age. In the United States, On an international basis, applications of mindfulness are being integrated into pedagogy, curriculum, and innovative professional development programs in a broad spectrum of academic and professional fields such a medicine, engineering, education, and even architecture, sports, and the arts.
In an anticipation of a Summit meeting called Mindfulness 2016, the Faculty of Arts (Center for Ethics of Science and Technology) is organizing an inter-faculty coalition at Chulalongkorn whose purpose is to introduce new international practices of mindfulness to Chulalongkorn University across all disciplines. In the first of a series of informal, brief seminars on this topic, the Engineering Faculty of Chulalongkorn hosts a discussion that considers how Chulalongkorn’s professional schools and faculties might incorporate mindfulness as a factor in pedagogy, curriculum and innovative professional-development systems.
